Erphaan

Erphaan Alves is a young Trinbagonian artiste on the rise! No stranger to music, his singing career began at the age of nine through calypso music, when he entered and won his Primary School’s (Rosary Boys RC) Calypso Monarch title in 2001. An avid showman and stage performer from even then, Erphaan retained the monarchy for the next two years.

Erphaan has honed his stagemanship by performing in several competitions over the years including T&T Idol Calypso Competition, Twelve and Under Series, Xante Calypso Monarch, TV6 Sound Stage, TSTT Party Flava Face Off Song Competition, Synergy TV Soca Star, and the National Schools’ Soca Monarch which he won in 2008 and 2009. Most notably, he won the National Song competition in 2012 singing his own composition, “As We Rise”.

The singer/songwriter’s breakout year came in 2012 when he successfully qualified as a finalist in both Groovy and International Power Soca Monarch Finals with the songs “In your Eyes” and “Terrible” becoming the youngest artiste to ever qualify for both categories at just 20 years old.

Erphaan was awarded Best New Male Soca Artiste in the International Soca Awards that year and he has gained international recognition being featured as an MTV IGGY Artiste of The Week the same year. In 2019 he made his debut appearance in the Finals of National Calypso Monarch competition.

He has written songs for some of the top soca artistes in the world most notably:

  • “Precision Wine” by Kes The Band
  • “Make You Rock” and “Doh Fraid” by Machel Montano
  • “Land of Whine” by Teddyson John ( which won the St. Lucia Groovy Soca Monarch tile in 2012)
Since then, Erphaan has built a strong fan base and has received consistent radio airplay for his music. He has been in steady demand to perform at events locally, regionally and internationally. Erphaan’s unique, melodic, husky toned voice is just as recognizable as his dynamic and energetic stage performances. Erphaan has collaborated on songs with soca icon Machel Montano and Blaxx of the legendary Roy Cape All Stars. He has also worked with regional and international producers.

Erphaan also invests his interest into charitable projects such as the, St. Georges, College Music fund and the Grateful School Tour that takes place annually in the month of November. He has lectured to students of Success Laventille Secondary on Careers in the PerformingArtsand the 2011 National Schools Junior Soca Monarch Finalists onLive Performance. He was also the Motivational Guest Speaker at Maritime Awards functions for successful SEA, CSEC and CAPE students.

Further demonstrating his passion for his musical development, Erphaan is a University of the West Indies graduate with a B.Sc. in Musical Arts. His ultimate goal is to take soca music to more prevalent heights on a global stage. There is no doubt, that this self-motivated, vibrant and multi-talented young star is fully capable and poised to leave his mark not only in soca music, but on the world.
